All plans come standard that includes one free SSL certificate as well as a domain name for 1 year; these plans also provide unlimited storage space (unmetered bandwidth), email addresses & monthly options that include an entire suite of extra features such as the website builder which come standard to customers on all their packages.
Let’s look at the plans, features, and prices:
Hatchling plan – Hosting a single website is $2.75/mo.
Baby plan – Allows for hosting 5 websites for $3.50/mo.
Pro plan – Unlimited websites, free dedicated IP, upgrade to positive SSL, and Seo tools $5.25/mo.
What’s not to love about these plans? You get a free domain name for 1 year, and there are no further expenses during that time. Even if you choose the most expensive plan it’s still very affordable.
However, for the best-shared plan, we believe that their Baby plan offers the best value. It is only a mere dollar more than the Hatchling plan and you get to host up to 5 websites plus you get a $500 Google Ad spend match credit plus a $100 Microsoft Advertising credit.
Best bang for your buck:
HostGator’s baby plan is perfect for those who want to enjoy promotional prices without sacrificing too much. With this hosting plan option, you get a free domain and SSL certificate as well as host up to 5 websites. Note, all shared plans require a 3-year subscription.
HostGator offers a 30-day money-back guarantee for all of its customers who are not satisfied with its service. This guarantee makes it easy to get your money back if you are unhappy with your hosting experience—all you have to do is contact their customer service team. The only caveat is that the free domain name fee will be deducted from any refund.
All in all, HostGator has one of the most cost-efficient hosting plans available, making it an attractive option for people looking to start their website. It provides everything you need in terms of server space, bandwidth, and storage to get your website up and running quickly. However, be sure to check the renewal prices before signing up, as they can increase significantly.
Hosting Management – IS Using cPanel Easy?
HostGator provides a mix of customized and basic features with their dashboard. More advanced configurations can be found in cPanel, which is also used by many hosting companies today.”
This is what you’ll see when you log in to your dashboard:
The cPanel has all the features you need for easy and secure website management –Whether it’s SSL management, WordPress installation, Email Accounts setup, or databases to File Managers. The convenient cPanel button allows you to launch the control panel in a second. To top it all off, the dashboard looks very nice.
Here’s what HostGator’s cPanel looks like; we couldn’t get the whole cPanel in one screenshot. Below this screenshot, we’ll show the other half of the cPanel.
HostGator’s cPanel is the perfect balance of simplicity and functionality. The traditional layout makes it easy to find what you’re looking for.
cPanel is widely loved by users for its effortless usability. HostGator’s native hosting management dashboard makes it a breeze to set up your website. However, you’ll discover far more choices within cPanel from setting up email accounts to managing domains and subdomains and much more.
Additionally, it can be beneficial if you opt to install any content management system other than WordPress. You can scroll down to the Softaculous Apps Installer section and pick the app you want.
In conclusion regarding the above interface, the interface is very perceptive and there are many preferences to opt for.
How's HostGator for WordPress?
HostGator pays a lot of attention to WordPress and the simplicity around it. Therefore, using HostGator to install WordPress is effortless. It’s easy to get started – just click the “Install WordPress” link on your dashboard and enter the required information.
You’ll find the “Install WordPress” button straight on your dashboard, in the Control Panel column.
The installation process has been streamlined to make it easier. You can now install WordPress in three different ways from the cPanel: the first way is by clicking on the “WordPress” icon in the “Software Section”; the second way is by clicking on the “Softaculous Apps Installer”; and the third way is to go to the “Softaculous Apps Installer” section and click on the WordPress icon.
Regardless of your choice, you will be directed to Softaculous’ one-click installer. If desired, it also offers other popular applications such as Joomla and Drupal.
Although, were devoted WordPress enthusiasts, the sheer volume of hosting providers targeting it is simply excessive. We’re happy to see HostGator isn’t making it difficult to access other content management systems.
Now, if you decide to install WordPress, this is the visual representation of what should appear on your screen.
Now, click “Install Now”, and then fill out all the necessary information, like your site name, site description, admin username, admin password, and admin email.
Now, after filling in all the necessary fields, click on the blue Install button. In less than a minute, you’ll have your WordPress site ready; Softaculous does all the work for you.
Overall, the WordPress installation process was super easy; HostGator makes it easy to install software and apps.
Does HostGator automatically activate my SSL certificate?
If you’ve taken advantage of HostGator’s free domain offering, your SSL certificate will likely be active and ready to go. Still, make sure everything is functioning as expected by doing a quick check!
On your dashboard, there is an SSL Management button. When you click it, you will be taken to the page that displays all of your domains along with their current SSL statuses. Please refer to the screenshot below.
Usually, the certificate will be activated automatically. Nevertheless, if your domain is hosted outside of HostGator’s platform then it may be difficult for their tool to carry out the activation process with complete accuracy every time.
If that’s the situation, your certificate status will be listed as “Pending” instead of “Active.” Fortunately, you can contact HostGator’s customer service team and they’ll assist in manually fixing it.
All in all, activating SSL should be easy to do, particularly if you decide to go with HostGator’s free domain option. It’s also easy enough to verify that everything is functioning correctly.
Does HostGator offer a custom email?
HostGator offers free unlimited email accounts with all its plans, but you’re responsible for setting up your email. The process is easy and only takes a few minutes – even if this is your first time!
To set up your professional email, click the “Email Accounts” link on your HostGator dashboard to create an email account, or you can access it from the cPanel by clicking the “>” icon in the Email section.
Nevertheless, you’ll end up in the email management area, now click “Create” now you should be seeing a window like the screenshot below.
Now just fill in the information required, like a username and password. You can also set limits on your storage the default is 500MB you can also choose unlimited if you’d like.
After you complete the steps, your email will be all set and ready to go! Logging into your email is easy. You can do it by clicking on the “Email Accounts” link from the main dashboard.
All in all, setting up an email client with HostGator takes no time at all! It’s as simple as it gets and you can start using your address immediately.
HostGator Performance and Uptime
To better understand the capabilities of HostGator, we have conducted a few tests to assess its speed and stability. During testing, HostGator proved to be an exceptional host; its uptime easily exceeded the guaranteed level and loading speeds were incredibly fast. To get a better understanding of these tests, let’s break them down one by one.
To kickstart the testing, we utilized (Uptime Robot) to test how reliable HostGator is:
For this, we monitored HostGator for 8 days and were astounded to discover that they had maintained a remarkable 100% uptime.
Even though HostGator did have 100% uptime during the 8-day test, this does not include unforeseen circumstances or server maintenance activities. HostGator does guarantee 99.99% uptime, which is good.
What’s more, HostGator achieved impressive results in terms of average response time; the response time was a remarkable 197ms—that’s lightning-fast!
However, it averaged a swift and impressive response time of 197ms which is far below the average market speed of 600ms.
Undeniably, HostGator’s reliability is second-to-none with its perfect uptime and incredibly swift response time.
HostGator Hosting speed
To evaluate the speed of HostGator, we ran tests using (GTmetrix) to measure the loading time for an empty website as well as one with content and images.
To help you gain a full understanding of the results, here are 3 crucial metrics:
- The Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) – It’s the amount of time it takes for the largest portion of the content to load on a page. Don’t forget that Google takes loading speed into serious consideration when ranking websites on the search engine results page. To get the best results, ensure that your LCP is less than 2.5 seconds.
- Fully Loaded Time – is when the First Contentful Paint and Onload have been activated, followed by (5.25 seconds) of network and CPU idle.
- Speed Index– For optimal user satisfaction, users must have access to your page content in 1.3 seconds or less.
First, we put the HostGator welcome page to the test. For our test, we chose the shared Hatchling Plan. Results from our US-hosted website were astonishingly favorable, with an LCP score of only 252ms – super fast indeed.
HostGator’s Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) results in the UK and India turned out to be very good as well, with the results being 537ms in UK and 1.3s in India respectively. Nevertheless, all three servers were able to load within the 2.5s which is good.
As the screenshot shows, HostGator’s performance was top-notch when tested from a server located in San Antonio, TX, USA with an empty site.
To our amazement, the results obtained through testing on a U.S. server greatly exceeded our expectations! Not just fast but astonishingly quick – the fully loaded time was an impressive 377ms that’s less than a half second.
Now, what would happen if we switched the empty site to a fully built one?
After the website was completed, the LCP went to 1.1s – still impressive considering it had been 252ms on an empty site. Believe it or not, that’s still incredibly fast. Incredibly, our four-page WordPress website with four images on the homepage loaded in just 1.1 seconds – peek at the screenshot below to see for yourself how fast it is.
Our website’s (Fully Loaded Time) was incredibly fast at 1.3s – a remarkable feat compared to the recommended maximum of 3 seconds.
The screenshot below shows further comprehensive analytics about the completed website.
As demonstrated by the screenshot above, HostGator achieved a remarkable speed index time of only 1.0s super-fast! This stellar performance is evidence that you can still attain remarkable results even with a fully developed website.
Opting for a server located near your target audience will guarantee faster page loading times and an improved user experience. HostGator has established two U.S. data centers: one located in Provo, Utah, and the other in Atlanta, Georgia.
Put in simple terms, HostGator is incredibly fast. It surpassed performance standards in both LCP and Fully Loaded Time metrics.
Overall, HostGator has proven to be a powerhouse in terms of performance. Your website will remain free from outages and its speedy loading speed is an unexpected yet delightful bonus. It’s perfect for small-to-medium-size websites that experience occasional spikes in traffic.
How Secure is HostGator?
HostGator’s security measures are generally basic and minimal. You will benefit from the SSL and firewall protection that comes standard with all their plans. Be prepared to open your wallet to access any extra features.
Every plan comes with a free SSL certificate, so that’s one less concern for you.
Additionally, you’ll receive a server-level firewall that safeguards your websites from malicious and unwanted traffic alike.
Thus far, everything looks good; however, any additional security features you might want to add will be an extra cost. Furthermore, HostGator offers a comprehensive suite of features and benefits.
- A Positive SSL upgrade for $39.99 per year is a great option if you need to host and operate a website with large amounts of transactions or sensitive data. You might think it is necessary when viewing the checkout cart, but the truth is that all shared plans come with a free SSL certificate. Just as an FYI, the Business plan includes this upgrade at no extra cost.
- SiteLock costs $83.88/year, not cheap by any means. But it does protect your website from viruses, malware, hackers, and spam. My dissatisfaction with this stems from the fact that many providers offer it for free.
- CodeGuard costs $33.00/year, CodeGuard automatically backs your site up and monitors it for changes. Unexpected issues can pop up at any given moment, however, it offers peace of mind to know that you could restore your website with just one click.
Overall, HostGator is a bit stingy when it comes to security. But on the positive side, HostGator does offer the basic security features for free, any extra security will cost extra, so it’s best not to skimp when it comes to security.
HostGator for Small Businesses
HostGator is the ideal choice for small business web hosting, yet also offers an abundance of scalability solutions to help businesses expand their operations. Like, Cloud computing, dedicated servers, and reseller hosting are just a few ways HostGator can aid in expanding your enterprise.
If you’re looking for the right hosting solution to help your business grow, then this part of our HostGator review will be perfect. We’ll take a close look at cloud servers and private server plans as well as reseller options so that when it comes time to choose which one works best, you’ll have a better idea.
Cloud hosting
HostGator offers three low-priced cloud hosting services that start at $4.95/mo. The provider’s Cloud hosting solution is a major upgrade from shared plans – not only is it affordable and user-friendly, but its infrastructure ensures that you get slightly more power for your money. Noticeably, HostGator doesn’t promote these plans; they are located at the footer of their website.
All cloud plans come with a free domain name for one year, along with an SSL certificate, optimized caching technology, and free email accounts. The benefits don’t stop there either; you also get $200 search engine marketing credits as well.
The plans range from one domain hosting to unlimited websites depending on the package you choose. The plans range from 2GB memory to 6GB memory and 2 core CPUs up to 6 core CPUs.
Not only does HostGator guarantee superior performance and more dependability than shared hosting, but you are still given the same simple usability.
All in all, cloud hosting is great for websites that are outgrowing their shared hosting plan, or for someone looking for faster speeds.
Dedicated hosting
HostGator offers a low-cost dedicated hosting package, with prices starting at just $89.98/mo.
If you’re new to managing dedicated servers, this is the perfect option for you. The advertised rate includes server management and a cPanel control panel.
All dedicated hosting plans come with unlimited bandwidth and the option to choose between Linux or Windows OS systems. The plans also come with, DDoS protection, a firewall, and full root access. Be mindful of your bandwidth usage – there are no plans that truly offer unlimited bandwidth. But, since you have dedicated hosting, chances are slim that you’ll be penalized for consuming too much data.
Nevertheless, the server resources transition from 4CPUs, 8GB RAM, and 1TB HDD to a solid 8 CPUs with 30GB of RAM plus a generous 1TB SSD–should be more than enough for most tasks.
Overall, HostGator’s dedicated hosting is an outstanding value for your money. If you have a huge project that needs its own server, then this provider should be the top choice on your list. It’s ideal for business owners who are looking to learn how to manage their very own dedicated server as well.
Reseller hosting
HostGator’s reseller hosting plans are an ideal solution for those looking to start their own hosting business, web developers, or agencies hosting websites for clients. With three available options, starting at just $19.95/mo., there is a plan that fits every budget.
With all plans, you’ll receive the fundamentals: unlimited domain hosting, cPanel, Web Host Manager (WHM), and WHMCS Client Management & Billing software. In a nutshell, HostGator offers one of the best reseller hosting services on the market.
In the meantime, server resources can range from 60GB of disk space and 600GB of bandwidth to a much larger 140GB disk space and 1400GB of bandwidth capacity. Unfortunately, HostGator does not provide any information about the number of cPanel accounts granted with each plan which makes it hard to strategize for your business growth.
Furthermore, although Copper and Silver have the same original prices for entry, remember that renewal of Silver is noticeably higher than renewing Copper.
However, HostGator is an ideal choice for businesses looking to purchase reseller packages. Not only are their packages affordably priced, but they offer a high level of customization and scalability that allows you to create exactly what you need for your business.
All in all, HostGator has a plethora of hosting solutions to meet the needs of any project. The only choice left is simply based on personal preference.
HostGator Customer Service – How Are They?
HostGator offers customer support service that is available 24/7 via both phone and live chat. Additionally, they have a comprehensive knowledge base that can be accessed to find helpful guides, videos, and further detailed articles. All these resources are designed to make it as easy as possible for customers to solve their problems.
It may appear strange that a ticketing system is not inherent, however, it can be when dealing with difficult issues. For example, if the matter requires an expert’s attention, then opening a ticket could provide access to senior members capable of resolving it quickly and efficiently.
Nevertheless, HostGator’s live chat system is our favorite way to get in touch with their support team. The link for this can be found in the top right corner of the website, as well as in your dashboard.
During our HostGator review, we reached out to their support team a couple of times. Each time, we were thrilled with the response: wait times were very short, and the customer service agents were incredibly helpful.
When we gave the live chat feature a go for the first time, we asked an agent to help us out with the nameservers. While it may be customary for many providers to assign the same nameservers to all their shared hosting accounts, HostGator chooses a different approach, giving each account its own exclusive set.
It took the agent just a couple of minutes to locate our nameservers, and we were thoroughly impressed with how speedy they were.
Next, we contacted HostGator to see if their shared hosting plans offer the HostGator website builder. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with shared hosting plans. If you are interested in their website builder, it starts at $3.84 per month up to $9.22 per month.
Again, there was no delay; we were quickly connected with a support representative in less than one minute.
Ultimately, our experience with HostGator’s customer service was outstanding. Rapid solutions and efficient problem-solving. Yet, multiple HostGator reviews rarely have anything positive to say about their experiences. And we get it. Not all the agents we interacted with were fluent in English. Misunderstandings can arise in such circumstances. Additionally, HostGator’s help team consists of outsourced agents which may not be fully committed to the task at hand.
Need help but don’t want to chat or call support? With HostGator’s extensive knowledge base, you’ll find the answers you need quickly with its articles and videos that cover all topics imaginable.
Everything is nicely organized, making it effortless to locate what you need. Alternatively, you can also simply utilize the search bar located at the top of the page.
Overall, HostGator offers excellent customer support that is both fast and helpful. We were pleasantly surprised to receive a quick response, with our issues being resolved in no time. What’s more, the knowledge base is vast and features video tutorials for your convenience. If you’re a visual learner, this is an ideal solution for you!
HostGator Review – Final Verdict

Taking performance, uptime, ease of use, and customer service into consideration; this host is one of the most affordable options available. Though a few minor drawbacks exist, there is no need for significant concern.
